Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Copenhagen

Morning: Start your day with a delicious Danish breakfast at a local café. Relish traditional delights like Smørrebrød, an open-faced sandwich topped with various ingredients such as cold cuts, smoked fish, cheese, and spreads. Common toppings include herring, liver pate, egg, and vegetables. (Café tip: Aamanns 1921). 🥪

Freetown Christiania: Begin your Copenhagen adventure at the captivating Freetown Christiania, a realm of artistic freedom and alternative living. The 900 people living in this freetown have their own rules and regulations independent of the Danish Government. Explore its vibrant streets (including the Green Light District 🌱🚬) adorned with street art and experience a unique way of live. ✌

Nyhavn: Head to Nyhavn and enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the cafés along this wonderful waterway. Soak in the view of the iconic colorful houses and bobbing boats that line the canal. 🏩

Boattrip: After finishing lunch, board onto one of the many boats gliding through the canals of Copenhagen. On the boat, you’ll encounter the wonders that Copenhagen has to offer, such as the Amalienborg Palace, its Opera building and the little mermaid for the first time. 🚢

Dinner: Let your day unfold along the picturesque streets of Strøget, one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets. Savor Danish delicacies such as hearty meatballs, creamy seafood chowder, or succulent grilled fish. As the sun sets, enjoy the urban buzz in this shopping street. (Recommendation: Café Vivaldi) 🛍

Day 2: Royal Splandor, Historic Marvels and a lot of Fun

Morning: Begin your day with a sumptuous breakfast spread at your hotel or a cozy café. Enjoy a leisurely meal of freshly baked bread, assorted cheeses, fruits, and eggs. (Tip: Wullf & Konstali) ☕

Runde Taarn: Climb the majestic Rundetaarn (Round Tower), an architectural wonder that offers panoramic views of the city. As you spiral upwards, pause to explore exhibitions and bask in the artistic essence of this unique observatory. 🕌

Rosenberg Castle: Just a short stroll away from the tower, you’ll find another wonder. Step into the pages of history at Rosenborg Castle, where centuries of royal tales come to life. Wander through opulent chambers and immerse yourself in the regal ambience. Don’t miss the chance to explore the castle’s lush gardens, a serene oasis in the heart of the city. 🏰

Tivoli Gardens: After a quick takeaway lunch, head to one of the oldest amusement parks in the world – Tivoli Gardens. Experience its enchantment for the rest of the day. As the sun sets, watch the gardens transform into a magical wonderland illuminated by thousands of lights. Enjoy thrilling rides, captivating performances, and delectable treats (and dinner) in this captivating setting. (Be aware that during some times of the year, the park is closed, as it was when we were there in March) 🎢

Day 3: Regal Elegance and Tranquil Beauty

Morning: Start your day with a delightful Danish breakfast at a local café. Indulge in flaky pastries, creamy yogurt, and aromatic coffee to fuel your adventures. 🥣

Amalienborg Palace and Marble Church: Join the Danish Royal Guard march that arrives at Amalienborg Palace at 12:00 o’clock everyday. Here you can witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony, a regal spectacle that embodies Danish heritage. Afterwards to you can marvel at the grandeur of the Palace, the residence of the Danish royal family. On the other side of the street from the palace, you can find the marble church. Take a moment to admire its stunning architecture from inside and out. ⛪

Churchill Park: Take a leisurely walk from the marble church to Churchill Park and enjoy sculptures, bridges, and the iconic Little Mermaid statue in the park. Continue your stroll to the historic Kastellet fortress, a bastion of history and serenity. 🧜‍♂️

Farewell Lunch/Dinner: Wrap up your weekend with a memorable dinner at a restaurant known for its modern take on traditional Danish cuisine. Enjoy dishes that pay homage to local flavors while incorporating innovative culinary techniques. 🍽

  • Transportation: We arrived at Copenhagen Airport. From there you easily can take the subway to the city center. The Stockholm Public Transportation System is excellent. Purchase a City Pass for unlimited rides on buses, trams, and the metro 🚎
  • Currency: The Danish Krone (DKK) is the official currency. While credit cards are widely accepted, having some local currency on hand for smaller shops and establishments is advisable. Currency exchange services can be found at the airport, train stations, and throughout the city 💸
  • Language: English is widely spoken, ensuring easy communication 🗣
  • Weather: Copenhagen’s weather varies; pack layers for comfort. Stay informed about forecasts 🌦
  • Budget: Plan for expenses in this city; consider budget accommodations (Tip: Go City Hotel) and exploring affordable dining options 🛏
